Resident doctors' strike: Key blames DHBs

Give our DHBs more!

This is an extract from Stuff, one I can't take lying down. "Efficiency" (see below) suggests to me that DHBs provide less than gold standard care.

An example is the use of stoma covers for laryngectomy patients. In the UK and in some regions of NZ the superior HME filters are provided. NOT in the DHBs of some of our biggest regions.

Has government funding REALLY kept up with Auckland's growth and the aging population?

John Key on the doctors' strike:

"It's nonsense to argue there is not enough money."

Speaking on his visit to Marton on Tuesday, Key said the Government had put more money in health and hired more doctors and nurses than ever before.

"It's not true that we have not increased funding by billions and billions of dollars."

Key shifted the blame to DHBs.

"DHBs need to make choices about how they spent their own budgets – efficiency is what the New Zealand taxpayer wants."
